Our Journey

We have both enjoyed a long career in the wine industry, in New Zealand and Italy. This stunning property reminded us of the kind of a European style operation that we always admired, family owned, compact and hands-on, this was the compelling driver in the decision to purchase the Mercury Bay Estate estate. 

The Mercury Bay Estate Vineyard

In 2004 the Pinot Noir block was purchased by John and Lorraine Donelley. The block contained nothing more than vines and a rickety old farm gate at the front entrance. Today we offer a very full portfolio of wines, which include 3 wines produced from fruit grown in our vineyard here at Cooks Beach as well as other wines in which we purchase high quality grapes from vineyards in the Hawkes Bay and Marlborough regions.

Today, we offer a Cellar Door and Restaurant where locals as well as tourists can come and relax and enjoy the beauty that we are so fortunately surrounded by, while tasting some of our wines, together with platters of local food. For those who enjoy a beer we provide local beers produced by Hot Water Brewing . We also now offer venue hire for special occasions such as weddings.
